Configuring the Network Information Service (NIS)

Modifying the map list

The file /etc/yp/YP_MAP_X_LATE must contain the comprehensive list of NIS maps within an NIS domain. This file should exist on every NIS server in the domain and be current. Whenever a new map is created, the map name should be added to this file on every server in the domain. Whenever a map is removed, the map name should be removed from this file on every server in the domain.

To edit the file /etc/yp/YP_MAP_X_LATE, you must have root permissions. Map names in this file appear in the form:

   long_map_name short_map_name
For example:
   passwd.byname passwd.nam
