Troubleshooting NIS

The following utilities are available for troubleshooting NIS. See their reference manual pages for complete information.

Utility Function
ypcat(NC) displays the contents of an NIS map.
ypmatch(NC) prints the value for one or more specified keys in an NIS map.
yppoll(NADM) asks any NIS server for information about a map that it holds internally.
ypwhich(NADM) tells you which NIS server an NIS client is currently using for NIS, or which NIS server is master of a named map.
rpcinfo(NADM) displays RPC information from a specified RPC server. Use rpcinfo to check whether portmapper, ypbind, and (for NIS servers) ypserv are running. If exporting filesystems, the mountd service should be registered.
ping(ADMN) reports roundtrip time and packet loss statistics. Use ping to ensure a network connection can be made between hosts.

The Account Manager is used to administer distributed and local NIS accounts.
