Configuring the NFS automounter

Managing automount with NIS

If NIS is configured for your network, you can use it to make automount maps available throughout your NIS domain. To ensure that automount functions properly in an NIS environment, there must be NIS maps of automount maps on the NIS master server.

To create the NIS automount maps:

  1. On the master server, create the /etc/auto.master file.

  2. Enter:

    cd /etc/yp
    ypmake auto.master

This will propagate the changes to all the NIS servers.

  3. On both the client and the server, edit the file /etc/nfs and remove the -m option.

  4. Restart automount by rebooting.
