Troubleshooting TCP/IP

From time to time, you will encounter problems using your network. The following general procedure can help solve most problems and points to additional documentation for help.

To troubleshoot the most common TCP/IP problems:

  1. Run the netstat command to verify the presence of TCP/IP interfaces.

  2. Use ping to verify stack configuration and local connectivity.

  3. Use ping to verify connectivity to remote networks.

  4. Use netstat to track down abnormal network behavior.

  5. Turn debugging on for TCP/IP server daemons.
