Starting and stopping ping sessions
Start a ping session in the Node Check Manager
by selecting Start Session from the Ping
menu.
When you do:
-
Each node on the node list is pinged in turn.
-
If a node does not respond, the following
occurs:
-
An alert appears on the screen, if Post Alert is selected.
-
An action you configured, such as sending notification mail to
a responsible person, occurs if Perform Action is selected.
-
A description of the failure is always written to a
history log, which is available from the View
menu.
-
The node list displays an X next to each machine that did not respond to
the ping packet.
-
After all nodes on the list are pinged, the Node Check Manager
pauses for a
specified interval.
This interval is shown in the
lower right-hand corner of the window. After the interval is
up, the Node Check Manager begins pinging the list again.
To cancel a ping session, select Stop Session from the
Ping menu.
