Configuring the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)

SNMP agents and management stations

Although there is no architectural reason that a system cannot have both types of functionality, most SNMP agents are found in dedicated routers and other specialized network equipment that is not capable of acting as a management station.

The SNMP package included with your SCO system provides the functionality of both an agent and a management station. A system running the software can monitor other systems and be monitored as well.

You can also use the SCO UNRESOLVED XREF-0 Intranet Management System to monitor use of the network, and to detect and diagnose problems. This graphical tool allows you to query, display and configure network management database values. It also has facilities for logging trap events.

NOTE: Third-party vendors provide software that operates using SCO SNMP and allows a system to function as a management station with full graphics capabilities. Contact the vendor who supplied you with your SCO system for more information on purchasing management station software.
