Configuring the Network Information Service (NIS)

Modifying the NIS domain name

An NIS domain name can be changed using the domainname(NC) command. If you change the name of an NIS domain, you must change it on all machines in that domain. This means that the domainname command must be run on each machine in the domain. To change the domain name with the domainname command, become root and enter

   domainname new_domain
on each machine in that domain. Note that the new domain name is in effect only until the next machine boot.

To permanently change an NIS domain name, edit the file /etc/nis on each machine in the new domain and set the variable YPDOMAIN to the new domain name. The new domain takes effect when you reboot the system.
