Overview of the network lock manager
The Network File System (NFS) takes advantage of a network locking
facility, implemented with the user-level daemon called the Network Lock
Manager. The Lock Manager supports the UNIX® System V style of advisory
and mandatory file and record locking (implemented using the
lockf(S)
library routine and the
fcntl(S)
system call). Mandatory file and record locking is not supported
over NFS.
