Configuring the NFS automounter

About mount point conflicts

A conflict can occur between a local directory and a mounted remote filesystem if the remote filesystem is mounted at or above a local directory with files or directories below it. When this happens, all of the local files and directories become hidden (that is, they are not available while the remote filesystem is mounted).

With direct mounts, the significant level is the basename of the key of the direct map, and every local file or directory at or below this directory is hidden. With indirect mounts, anything at or below the virtual parent directory is hidden.

If such a conflict occurs and you don't want the local files and directories to be hidden, either choose a different mount point for the remote filesystem or mount the entire local file partition in a different place.
