VERITAS filesystem (VxFS) documentation overview
SCO OpenServer includes the
``basic'' version of the VERITAS
filesystem (VxFS). Functionality is limited
to the following:
-
extent-based allocation (file storage is allocated as one or
more adjacent blocks of data)
-
extent attributes (extent allocation policies associated with
a file)
-
fast filesystem recovery (recovery following a system failure is
speeded up by use of a tracking feature called ``intent logging'')
-
enhanced security (the Discretionary Access Control (DAC) mechanism)
-
support for BSD-style quotas
-
support for large files and large filesystems (larger than 2GB)
Optionally, you can license the
advanced VERITAS filesystem product (VxFS).
This adds the following functionality to the ``basic''
version:
-
online administration (defragmentation and resizing of filesystems)
-
snapshot mounts for online backup
-
enhanced application interface (for pre-allocation, unbuffered I/O,
and caching advisories.
-
enhanced mount options
-
improved synchronous write performance
-
enhanced I/O performance
-
DMAPI (Data Management API)
The following VERITAS documentation is included
on the system:
For the advanced VxFS filesystem product-
If you have licensed the advanced VxFS filesystem product, use the
VxFS System Administrator's Guide
exclusively.
For the ``basic'' VxFS filesystem product-
The ``basic'' VxFS filesystem product
is described in
``Managing the VxFS filesystem''.
