getserno(C)

getserno -- output the serial number

Syntax

/etc/getserno binary ...

Description

getserno reads the named binary files and prints the serial numbers of the branded SCO OpenServer products found within it on the standard output. Note that some serial numbers cannot be printed because they are not branded. See also the ``#ser='' field of the files in /etc/perms for details of the files to check.

Exit values

getserno returns the following exit values:

0
Normal exit; getserno finds one or more SCO OpenServer serial numbers.

1
The named binary file does not contain an SCO OpenServer serial number.

2
The named binary file is unreadable, or a file access error occurs.

Limitations

getserno only reports a serial number for binaries that check the activation state. It should always work on /unix if you are logged in as root.

Authorization

Only the super user is permitted to open most system binaries for reading.
